Its name comes from the whitish color of the limestone rocks on its western slope. Indeed saxum album: white stone. This peak consists of two summits; only the lower one is on the border, while the other, the true Sassalbo, rises on Swiss soil. Its position offers a panorama of Lake Poschiavo and the Bernina group prominently in the foreground. From Malghera, follow the trail leading to the homonymous lake N253, go around it and continue on a trail that climbs in zigzags to reach 2415 m above the bastion overlooking the lake. Continuing southwest over ledges and grassy terraces first, then a steep ascent through scree, you reach the Malghera Pass or Forcola di Sassiglione (N253).
