Bormio protagonist of the XXV Olympic Winter Games

An extraordinary event that will involve athletes from over 90 nations and turn the spotlight on some of the most iconic locations in the Alps. With the legendary Stelvio slope - considered among the most fascinating and technical in the world - Bormio is ready to write a new page of Olympic history.

Don't miss the excitement of the official ceremonies: it starts on 6 February with the opening ceremony at the San Siro Stadium in Milan and ends on 22 February with the final ceremony at the Arena in Verona.

The Stelvio Slope

An icon of speed and technique, the Stelvio slope in Bormio is among the most spectacular and challenging in the world. At 3,186 metres long and with an altitude difference of 987 metres, it has hosted two editions of the Alpine Skiing World Championships (1985 and 2005) and, since 1993, has been a fixed stage of the Men's World Cup. Famous for iconic passages such as the San Pietro jump, the Stelvio has made skiing history, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023.

Cortina 2026 will host the men's and women's Olympic Alpine skiing and ski mountaineering competitions, starting with the Downhill on 7 February 2026.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

🚦Restricted traffic zones during the Olympics

During the Olympic Games certain areas of the territories involved will be subject to temporary restricted traffic zones in order to make everyone's experience safer and more orderly, reducing traffic and improving local traffic flow.
 
During periods of activation, access will only be granted to vehicles with an Auto Pass Territories.
Without a pass, it will not be possible to enter the restricted traffic areas; it will always be possible to leave the city, even without a pass.  
 
The categories of people who can request the pass are: 
  • residents and owners of second homes
  • commuters
  • commercial and manufacturing businesses
  • accommodation facilities and their guests
  • delivery and logistics services 
  • other authorised categories, 
The restricted traffic zones will be active only on competition days and during specific time slots in the hamlets of Bormio, Valdisotto, Valfurva, Livigno and Valdidentro:
 
  • Zone 1 BORMIO - part of the municipality of Bormio (Combo district) and Valdisotto (Vallecetta side: Piatta, S. Pietro, Gotrosio, Ciuk and Bormio 2000) 
    Days: 6, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19, 21 February - time slot 7.00 am - 4.00 pm
  • Zone 2 BORMIO - the rest of the municipality of Bormio and the entire Valfurva
    Days: 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19, 21 February - time slot 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

  • Zone 1 LIVIGNO: Mottolino ski area
    Days: from 4 to 22 February  - time slot  6.00 am – 12.00 am
  • Zona 1 LIVIGNO: Carosello 3000 ski area and via Saroch
    Days: 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21 February - time slot 8.00 am - 3.00 pm
  • Zone 2 LIVIGNO: the rest of Livigno
    Days: from 4 to 22 February - time slot  6.00 am – 12.00 am
  • Zone 3 LIVIGNO - municipality of Valdidentro up to the Eira Pass
    Days: from 4 to 22 February  - time slot  6.00 am – 12.00 am

How to reach Bormio 

BY TRAIN

During the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Trenord will enhance rail service on the Milan-Tirano route, with trains running every 30 minutes from 4:20 a.m. until late at night, connecting Valtellina with the competition venues. Additional services will be introduced and buses will replace trains if necessary due to infrastructure upgrade works in preparation for the Games. 

BY BUS

It will be possible to reach Bormio by bus from Tirano; the service, provided by Automobilistica Perego, will be enhanced with services every 30 minutes to/from Tirano and Santa Caterina, and every 60 minutes to/from Livigno.
Direct services from Tirano to Bormio will continue to Livigno without changing buses in Bormio; in addition to the scheduled services, buses will be available at stations ready to depart in the event of demand exceeding bus capacity.

From December 2025, Busitalia will also operate daily services to and from Milano Centrale with stops in Bormio (Bormio Terme), Valdidentro (Isolaccia - Piazza 4 Novembre) and Livigno.
Tickets can be purchased online on the BusitaliaShop website, on Trenitalia channels, on board buses by paying with a debit card or contactless with the Drop Ticket app.

BY CAR

Holders of tickets for the Olympic Games who wish to visit Bormio for the day and are not guests of accommodation facilities or owners of second homes must leave their cars at the park-and-ride car park in Aquilone. A shuttle service will operate from the Aquilone car park with connections to Bormio.

 Information on Bormio Ski Area

Due to the Olympic competitions,the ski area will remain closed from 1 to 16 February 2026. Open with restrictions from 17 to 22 February 2026.
The dates subject to closures/restrictions for the Olympics may change at any time by order of the Competent Authorities.

There will be no closures of any kind in the nearby ski areas of Santa Caterina and Cima Piazzi–San Colombano.
