Document{{en=The Vigneron Via Ferrata in Caspoggio (Valmalenco, Sondrio) is an athletic, vertical and exposed via ferrata but without particular technical difficulties. The route climbs long vertical slabs abundantly equipped with footholds and a very tight cable. Given the low altitude, it can be done practically all year round except in the cold winter months. The via ferrata stays in the shade in the morning and generally receives little sun in the winter months. Caution in winter for possible ice on the return path.

Via ferrata: It starts with a stepping wall, almost vertical, which near the end slopes a few meters to the left. Then a small wall of a few meters leads to the large ledge found at the end of the first part of the via ferrata.

An easy equipped traverse to the left (north) along the edge of the ledge leads to the second section of the via ferrata. This section is longer than the first and starts with rock steps alternating vertical sections with others more slabby, leading to an almost vertical ramp. A short traverse leads to a passage between an edge and a dihedral, quite exposed but spectacular: behind you can enjoy a contrasting view with the wonderful village of Primolo. The via ferrata follows for a few dozen meters traversing a slabby rock edge.

Next is the most vertical part of the via ferrata, the Old England wall, located to the left of the via ferrata. An old climbing sector with recently restored routes. The beginning of this wall overhangs for a few meters and requires a short, somewhat athletic and exposed move. After that, the wall continues vertically for a few dozen meters.

At its end, the via ferrata slopes to the left (north) and with easy ledges leads to the short but beautiful Tibetan bridge. The bridge is about 12 meters long and ends with a short vertical and very exposed wall that you must climb vertically for a couple of meters and then bypass to the left on a beautiful and exposed ridge (wonderful backdrop of the village of Chiesa Valmalenco and the San Giuseppe valley). After overcoming this ridge for about ten meters, you reach a comfortable ledge. For those wanting to avoid the Tibetan bridge, there is a section of the via ferrata that bypasses it continuing to the right on the ledge for an easy and slabby path.

From here, the via ferrata continues with another beautiful and long wall, vertical in some points, which slopes at times toward the left. At this point, the via ferrata is well exposed both on the rock structure base and on the towns of Valmalenco. At the end of this wall the via ferrata eases and becomes easier and slabby. Besides the satisfaction of the climb, from here you suddenly enjoy a wonderful view of Pizzo Scalino first and then of the village of Caspoggio. Here, although easy, the route continues with the lifeline along a equipped trail leading to the end (1h 45' from the start - about 2h total)

Ferrata: Si inizia con un muro a balzi, quasi verticale che nel tratto finale obliqua qualche metro a sinistra. Proseguiamo lungo un murettino di pochi metri che conduce alla grande cengia che troviamo al termine della prima porzione di ferrata.

Un facile traverso attrezzato verso sinistra (Nord) sul bordo della cengia conduce alla seconda sezione della ferrata. Questa sezione è più lunga della prima ed inizia con delle balze di roccia che alternano porzioni verticali e altre più appoggiate fino a condurre a una rampa quasi verticale. Un breve traverso conduce a un passaggio tra uno spigolo ed un diedro, piuttosto aereo ma spettacolare: alle spalle si gode di una vista a contrasto con il meraviglioso abitato di Primolo. La ferrata appoggia per qualche decina di metri percorrendo uno spigolo di roccia appoggiato.

A questo punto si giunge al tratto più verticale della ferrata, il muro della Vecchia Inghilterra, che si trova a sinistra della ferrata. Un vecchio settore di arrampicata con delle vie recentemente ripristinate. L’inizio di questo muro è per pochi metri strapiombante e richiede un breve passo un po' atletico ed esposto. Superatolo il muro continua verticale per qualche decina di metri.

Al suo termine la ferrata obliqua a sinistra (nord) e con facili balze conduce al breve ma bellissimo ponte tibetano. Il ponte è lungo circa 12 metri e termina con un breve muro verticale e molto aereo che si deve salire verticale per un paio di metri per poi aggirarlo a sinistra su un bellissimo ed aereo spigolo (meraviglioso sfondo su l’abitato di Chiesa Valmalenco e la valle di San Giuseppe). Superato questo spigolo lungo una decina di metri si giunge ad una comoda cengia. Per chi volesse evitare il ponte tibetano c'è un tratto di via ferrata che lo aggira continuando a destra sulla cengia per un percorso facile ed appoggiato.

Da qui la ferrata riprende con un altro bellissimo e lungo muro, in qualche punto verticale, che obliqua a tratti verso sinistra. La ferrata a questo punto è bella esposta sia sulla base della struttura rocciosa come sui paesi della Valmalenco. Al termine di questo muro la ferrata si abbatte e diventa più facile e appoggiata. Oltre alla soddisfazione della scalata da questo punto si gode, quasi improvvisamente, della meravigliosa vista sul Pizzo Scalino prima e poi sull’abitato di Caspoggio. Qui, benché facile, il percorso continua con la linea vita per un sentiero attrezzato che conduce al termine (1h 45' dall'attacco - ca 2h totali)

Klettersteig: Er beginnt mit einer fast vertikalen Wand mit Absätzen, die im letzten Abschnitt einige Meter nach links schwenkt. Wir folgen einem kleinen Mauerstück von wenigen Metern, das zu einem großen Sims führt, den wir am Ende des ersten Klettersteigabschnitts finden.

Eine einfache, nach links (Nord) ausgestattete Querung am Simsrand führt zum zweiten Abschnitt des Klettersteigs. Dieser Abschnitt ist länger als der erste und beginnt mit Felsabsätzen, die vertikale und weniger steile Abschnitte abwechseln, bis zu einer fast vertikalen Rampe. Eine kurze Querung führt zu einem Durchschlupf zwischen einer Kante und einer Rinne, ziemlich luftig, aber spektakulär: Im Rücken genießt man den Kontrast mit dem wunderbaren Ort Primolo. Der Klettersteig verläuft einige Dutzend Meter an einer angelegten Felskante entlang.

Hier erreicht man den vertikalsten Teil des Klettersteigs, die Wand von Vecchia Inghilterra, die links vom Klettersteig liegt. Ein alter Kletterbereich mit kürzlich erneuerten Routen. Der Beginn dieser Wand ist für wenige Meter überhängend und erfordert einen kurzen etwas athletischen und ausgesetzten Schritt. Danach geht die Wand mehrere Dutzend Meter vertikal weiter.

Am Ende neigt der Klettersteig nach links (Nord) und mit leichten Felsabsätzen gelangt man zur kurzen, aber schönen Tibet-Brücke. Die Brücke ist etwa 12 Meter lang und endet mit einer kurzen vertikalen und sehr luftigen Wand, die man etwa zwei Meter vertikal überwinden muss, um sie dann links an einer schönen und luftigen Kante zu umgehen (herrlicher Hintergrund auf den Ort Chiesa Valmalenco und das Tal von San Giuseppe). Nach dieser Kante, die etwa zehn Meter lang ist, erreicht man einen bequemen Sims. Wer die Tibet-Brücke meiden will, kann einen Abschnitt des Klettersteigs rechts umgehen und auf dem Sims einem leichten und geneigten Weg folgen.

Von hier setzt der Klettersteig mit einer weiteren schönen und langen Wand fort, teilweise vertikal, die teilweise nach links neigt. Der Klettersteig ist nun schön exponiert, sowohl unten am Fels als auch zu den Dörfern des Valmalenco. Am Ende dieser Wand wird der Klettersteig leichter und geneigter. Neben der Zufriedenheit des Aufstiegs genießt man von hier fast unvermittelt den wunderbaren Blick zuerst auf den Pizzo Scalino und dann auf den Ort Caspoggio. Hier führt der Weg, obwohl einfach, mit einer Sicherungsseil- Linie auf einem ausgestatteten Pfad zum Ende (1h 45' vom Einstieg - ca. 2h insgesamt)
