The La Piazza - Monte Bassetta route coincides with a section of the much longer and more challenging Sentiero Bonatti, an alpinist and explorer who lived at the foot of these mountains.
The starting point is the locality La Piazza, already panoramic with beautiful huts scattered around the wide meadow. The path is marked at the fountain, at 990 m altitude; it goes flat - to the left - among the higher huts, then enters the forest. The first part is a long traverse, then it climbs in switchbacks among the birches, with views of Lake Mezzola, up to the modest Monte Foffricio (1,258 m). The ascent continues along the ridge between Valtellina and Valchiavenna. The forest limit is about 1,600 m above sea level. Monte Bassetta is a wide grassy hill, without a real summit, but the panorama - from every point - is truly 360 degrees. The "summit" of the mountain is at 1,746 m altitude.
The return follows the same itinerary.
, it=Il percorso La Piazza - Monte Bassetta coincide ad un tratto del ben più lungo ed impegnativo Sentiero Bonatti, alpinista ed esploratore che ha abitato ai piedi di queste montagne.
Il punto di partenza è la località La Piazza, già panoramica con belle baite qua e là nel prato ampio. Il sentiero è indicato dove c'è la fontana, a 990 m di altitudine; va in piano - verso sinistra - tra le baite più a monte, poi è nel bosco. Il primo tratto è un lungo traverso, quindi sale a tornanti tra le betulle, con scorci sul Lago di Mezzola, fino al modesto Monte Foffricio (M 1.258). La salita continua sul crinale tra Valtellina e Valchiavenna. Il limite del bosco è a circa 1.600 m slm. Il Monte Bassetta è un ampio poggio erboso, senza una vera e propria cima, ma il panorama - da ogni punto - è davvero a 360 gradi. La "cima" del Monte è a 1.746 m di quota.
Il ritorno segue lo stesso itinerario.
, de=Der Weg La Piazza - Monte Bassetta entspricht einem Abschnitt des viel längeren und anspruchsvolleren Sentiero Bonatti, eines Bergsteigers und Entdeckers, der am Fuße dieser Berge gelebt hat.
Der Ausgangspunkt ist die Ortschaft La Piazza, bereits panoramisch mit schönen Hütten hier und da auf der großen Wiese. Der Weg ist an der Stelle mit dem Brunnen markiert, auf 990 m Höhe; er verläuft flach - nach links - zwischen den höher gelegenen Hütten, dann im Wald. Der erste Abschnitt ist ein langer Quergang, dann steigt er in Serpentinen zwischen den Birken mit Blicken auf den Lago di Mezzola bis zum bescheidenen Monte Foffricio (M 1.258). Der Aufstieg geht weiter am Kamm zwischen Valtellina und Valchiavenna. Der Waldrand liegt bei ca. 1600 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Der Monte Bassetta ist ein weiter grasbewachsener Hügel, ohne einen echten Gipfel, aber die Aussicht - von jedem Punkt aus - ist wirklich 360 Grad. Der „Gipfel“ des Monte liegt auf 1746 m Höhe.
