Mount Forbici is a peak that offers one of the most rewarding views of the inner Bernina group. The ascent starts from the Carate refuge, following a visible path that branches off the traditional ascent to the Marinelli refuge and which in about 50 minutes leads to the cross of Mount Forbici.

The summit is just over 2900 m high and is reachable from the first dam of Campo Moro. You park the car in the parking area adjacent to the first dam, near the Poschiavino refuge and Zoia refuge. From here, head towards the first dam, cross it, and descend about fifty meters to join the classic path to the Carate and Marinelli refuges. The path immediately climbs rapidly and gains altitude quickly. After about 40 minutes of ascent, the path, still surrounded by dense fir forest, levels out and a pleasant, relaxing traverse awaits. Slowly the goal begins to be visible, both the Carate refuge with its characteristic red roof and the summit of Mount Forbici.

The dense forest gradually gives way to sparse larches, mountain pines, and high-altitude flowers until you find yourself walking in a typical high mountain environment characterized by increasingly sparse vegetation and mountain debris.

Once you arrive at the refuge, we recommend a short refreshing break before continuing with the last stretch of the ascent. Following the signs for Mount Forbici, you reach the summit in just under an hour. From here the view is enchanting, with a superb view of the Bernina group in all its majesty. The view extends 360° and you can also see other peaks of Valmalenco: Pizzo Scalino and Disgrazia as well as the Orobie mountains above Sondrio.

The ascent involves a considerable elevation gain, almost 1000 meters, with an estimated climbing time of about 3 hours. There is the possibility to split the itinerary into two days, staying overnight at the Carate refuge where Alessandro and Silvia, two young people who recently decided to manage the refuge, welcome you.

The refuge is certainly hospitable and welcoming. A stove is lit, a small couch for moments of relaxation, many mountain books, and chats with the refuge keepers.

In short... spending the night here can be comforting for both body and spirit!

Very close to the Forbici Pass, where the refuge is located, there is also a fantastic small lake where the Bernina group is reflected. Sometimes, in extremely hot summers, some seek refreshment in the icy waters, but the advice is simply to immerse your feet and relax on the banks of the small lake.

For the return, the following options are suggested:

the same ascent route, passing through Alpe Musella, a pasturing area still frequented and popular with numerous cows and horses;

in case of an overnight stay at Carate, climb up to the Marinelli refuge and descend by the same route;

undertake the traverse to the Fellaria pass (not an easy path as there are many large stones to walk on, so only for those used to this type of terrain – ascent about 210m), from here descend towards Alpe Fellaria and Bignami refuge, from where you can return to the parking lot where you left your car.

Il monte delle Forbici è una cima che regala uno dei più bei panorami più gratificanti sull’interno gruppo del Bernina. La salita si intraprende dal rifugio Carate, seguendo un sentiero visibile, che si stacca dalla salita tradizionale verso il rifugio Marinelli e che in circa 50 minuti di cammino conduce alla croce del monte delle Forbici.

La vetta supera di poco i 2900 m di altezza ed è raggiungibile dalla prima diga di Campo Moro. Si parcheggia l’auto nel parcheggio adiacente la prima diga, nei pressi del rifugio Poschiavino e rifugio Zoia. Da qui ci si incammina in direzione della prima diga, la si attraversa e si scende una cinquantina di metri fino ad imboccare il sentiero classico per i rifugi Carate e Marinelli. Da subito il sentiero sale rapidamente e si guadagna quota velocemente. Dopo circa 40 minuti di salita il sentiero, ancora circondato da fitto bosco di abeti, diventa pianeggiante e ci attende un bel traverso rilassante. Pian, piano la meta comincia ad essere visibile, sia il rifugio Carate dal caratteristico tetto rosso, sia la cima del monte delle Forbici.

Il fitto bosco pian piano lascia spazio ai radi larici, mugheti e fioriture di alta quota finchè ci si ritrova a camminare in un ambiente tipico di alta montagna caratterizzato da una vegetazione sempre più rada e detriti di montagna.

Una volta giunto al rifugio consigliamo una breve pausa ristoratrice per poi riprendere con l’ultimo tratto di salita. Seguendo le indicazioni per il monte delle forbici si raggiunge in un’ora scarsa la cima. Da qui il panorama è incantevole, con vista superlativa sul gruppo del Bernina, con tutta la sua maestosità. La vista spazia a 360° ed è possibile vedere anche le altre cime della Valmalenco: Pizzo Scalino e Disgrazia ma anche le Orobie, sopra Sondrio.

La salita presenta un discreto dislivello, quasi 1000 metri con un tempo stimato per la salita di circa 3h. Segnaliamo la possibilità di spezzare l’itinerario in due giorni, pernottando al rifugio Carate dove ad accogliervi trovate Alessandro e Silvia, due giovani che da poco hanno deciso di gestire un rifugio.

Il rifugio sicuramente è ospitale ed accogliente. Stufa accesa, divanetto per momenti di relax, tanti libri di montagna e due chiacchiere con i rifugisti.

Insomma… passare la notte qui può essere confortante per il corpo ma anche per lo spirito!

Vicinissimo alla bocchetta delle forbici, dove si trova il rifugio, troviamo anche un fantastico laghetto dove si specchia il gruppo del Bernina. A volte, nell’estati afosissime, capita che qualcuno cerchi refrigerio nelle acque gelide ma il consiglio è quello di immergere semplicemente i piedi e rilassarsi sulle sponde del piccolo laghetto.

Per il ritorno segnaliamo le seguenti possibilità:

lo stesso itinerario di salita, passando per l’alpe Musella, alpeggio ancora frequentato e gettonato da numerose mucche e cavalli al pascolo;

nel caso di pernotto alla Carate, salire fino al rifugio Marinelli e scendere dallo stesso itinerario;

intraprendere la traversata fino alla forcella di Fellaria (sentiero non facile in quanto per parecchi tratti troviamo sassoni per cui da intraprendere solo se si è abituati a camminare su questo tipo di terreno – salita di circa 210m), da qui si scende in direzione Alpe Fellaria e rifugio Bignami da cui è possibile rientrare al parcheggio dove si è lasciata l’auto.

Der Monte delle Forbici ist ein Gipfel, der einen der schönsten und lohnendsten Ausblicke auf die innere Bernina-Gruppe bietet. Der Aufstieg beginnt am Rifugio Carate, wo ein sichtbarer Weg abzweigt, der vom traditionellen Anstieg zum Rifugio Marinelli wegführt und in etwa 50 Gehminuten zum Kreuz des Monte delle Forbici führt.

Der Gipfel überschreitet leicht die Höhe von 2900 m und ist von der ersten Staumauer Campo Moro erreichbar. Das Auto kann am Parkplatz neben der ersten Staumauer geparkt werden, in der Nähe des Rifugio Poschiavino und Rifugio Zoia. Von hier aus geht man in Richtung der ersten Staumauer, überquert sie und steigt etwa fünfzig Meter ab, um den klassischen Weg zu den Rifugi Carate und Marinelli zu nehmen. Der Weg steigt sofort steil an und gewinnt schnell an Höhe. Nach etwa 40 Minuten Aufstieg wird der Weg, der noch von dichtem Tannenwald umgeben ist, eben und es erwartet uns ein schöner, entspannter Querweg. Nach und nach wird das Ziel sichtbar, sowohl das Rifugio Carate mit seinem charakteristischen roten Dach als auch der Gipfel des Monte delle Forbici.

Der dichte Wald weicht allmählich lichten Lärchen, Alpenrosen und Hochgebirgsblumen, bis man sich in einer typischen Hochgebirgsumgebung mit immer spärlicherer Vegetation und Bergschutt wiederfindet.

Einmal am Rifugio angekommen, empfehlen wir eine kurze erholsame Pause, um dann den letzten Anstieg anzugehen. Den Wegweisern zum Monte delle Forbici folgend, erreicht man den Gipfel in etwas weniger als einer Stunde. Von hier ist die Aussicht bezaubernd, mit einem überwältigenden Blick auf die Bernina-Gruppe in all ihrer Majestät. Der Blick reicht 360° und man kann auch die anderen Gipfel des Valmalenco sehen: Pizzo Scalino und Disgrazia, aber auch die Orobie über Sondrio.

Der Aufstieg hat einen beachtlichen Höhenunterschied von fast 1000 Metern bei einer geschätzten Aufstiegszeit von etwa 3 Stunden. Es besteht die Möglichkeit, die Strecke auf zwei Tage aufzuteilen und im Rifugio Carate zu übernachten, wo Alessandro und Silvia, zwei junge Gastgeber, seit Kurzem den Rifugio führen.

Das Rifugio ist sicher gastfreundlich und einladend. Ofen an, Sofa für entspannte Momente, viele Bergbücher und ein nettes Gespräch mit den Hüttenwirten.

Kurz gesagt... hier eine Nacht zu verbringen, kann sowohl für Körper als auch Geist wohltuend sein!

Ganz in der Nähe der Bocchetta delle Forbici, wo sich das Rifugio befindet, gibt es auch einen fantastischen kleinen See, in dem sich die Bernina-Gruppe spiegelt. Manchmal, an sehr schwülen Sommertagen, suchen einige die Erfrischung im eisigen Wasser, aber der Rat ist, einfach nur die Füße einzutauchen und sich am Ufer des kleinen Sees zu entspannen.

Für den Rückweg gibt es folgende Möglichkeiten:

der gleiche Aufstiegsweg, vorbei an der Alpe Musella, einer noch bevölkerten und beliebten Alm mit zahlreichen Kühen und Pferden auf der Weide;

bei Übernachtung in Carate bis zum Rifugio Marinelli aufsteigen und denselben Weg hinabsteigen;

die Querung bis zur Fellaria-Scharte unternehmen (kein einfacher Weg, da es auf vielen Abschnitten große Steine gibt, daher nur geeignet für Geübte – etwa 210 m Aufstieg), von dort absteigen in Richtung Alpe Fellaria und Rifugio Bignami, von wo eine Rückkehr zum Parkplatz möglich ist, wo das Auto geparkt wurde.
