Valchiavenna is not just “sterile and very high mountains with large rocks,” as Leonardo da Vinci also mentioned during his stay in 1490.

It is a splendid place that offers perfect conditions to practice advanced hiking, in search of historical-cultural as well as gastronomic aspects. The possibility of understanding elements of a rural life now transformed is close at hand. One way to embrace this opportunity is to visit the delightful village of Uschione, in the Municipality of Chiavenna, located at an altitude of 832 meters.

The access to the oldest mule track route is found by going to the locality “Deserto,” in via al Tiglio (behind the train station).

To help locate the route, there are convenient signposts.

The mule track consists of countless steps. It is quite easy and walkable by anyone. It leads us, in about fifteen minutes, to the meadows of the “Belvedere” (470 m) from which you can enjoy a splendid view of Chiavenna and the entrance to the three valleys. Above Chiavenna, the village of Pianazzola is clearly visible and higher up the Dalò cross. We resume the path that goes into the woods, passing near an ancient soapstone quarry until reaching, near a fountain, a large boulder known locally as the “sass che gota,” meaning dripping rock. Just beyond, the woods thin out. Here are the huts of “contrada Zarucchi,” and immediately after those of the “Pighetti,” whose beautiful and ancient buildings form the central core of Uschione. I love walking around the plateau around which the village gathers.

There is an intense silence, broken only by the sound of fountain water.

The path crossing Uschione naturally leads towards the little church of 1609 dedicated to the Ascension.

La Valchiavenna non è solo “montagne sterili e altissime con grandi scogli“, come citava anche Leonardo da Vinci durante il suo soggiorno nel 1490.

E’ un luogo splendido, che offre le condizioni perfette per praticare un escursionismo evoluto, alla ricerca di aspetti storico culturali nonché gastronomici.La possibilità di comprendere aspetti di una vita rurale ormai trasformata, è a portata di mano. Un modo per dar corpo a questa opportunità, è quello di visitare il delizioso borgo di Uschione, nel Comune di Chiavenna, situato a quota 832 metri.

L’accesso al percorso più antico della mulattiera,  si trova recandosi in località “Deserto”, in via al Tiglio (dietro stazione ferroviaria).

Ad agevolare la ricerca del percorso ci sono le comode paline indicatrici.

La mulattiera è composta da innumerevoli scalini. E’ piuttosto agevole e percorribile da chiunque. Ci conduce, in quindici minuti circa, ai prati del “Belvedere” (470 m.) da cui si gode una splendida vista su Chiavenna e sull’imbocco delle tre valli. Sopra Chiavenna è ben visibile il villaggio di Pianazzola e più in alto la croce di Dalò. Riprendiamo il sentiero che si inoltra nel bosco, passando nelle vicinanze di un’antica una cava di pietra ollare sino a raggiungere nei pressi di una fontana un grosso masso conosciuto dai locali come “sass che gota”, ovvero sasso che gocciola. Poco oltre il bosco dirada. Eccoci alle baite di “contrada Zarucchi”, e subito dopo a quelle dei “Pighetti” le cui belle e antiche costruzioni costituiscono il nucleo centrale di UschioneAdoro passeggiare per il pianoro intorno al quale si raccoglie il villaggio.

C’è un silenzio intenso, rotto solo dal rumore dell’acqua delle fontane.

Il percorso che attraversa Uschione porta naturalmente verso la chiesetta del 1609 dedicata all’Ascensione.

Das Valchiavenna ist nicht nur „sterile, sehr hohe Berge mit großen Felsen“, wie es Leonardo da Vinci während seines Aufenthalts 1490 ebenfalls beschrieb.

Es ist ein wunderbarer Ort, der perfekte Bedingungen für fortgeschrittenes Wandern bietet, bei der Suche nach historischen, kulturellen und auch gastronomischen Aspekten. Die Möglichkeit, Aspekte eines ehemals ländlichen Lebens zu verstehen, das sich gewandelt hat, liegt nahe. Eine Möglichkeit, diese Gelegenheit zu nutzen, ist der Besuch des reizenden Dorfes Uschione in der Gemeinde Chiavenna, auf 832 Metern Höhe gelegen.

Der Zugang zum ältesten Weg des Wanderwegs befindet sich in der Ortschaft „Deserto“ in der via al Tiglio (hinter dem Bahnhof).

Die bequemen Wegweiser erleichtern die Suche nach dem Pfad.

Der Wanderweg besteht aus zahllosen Stufen. Er ist ziemlich leicht und für jeden begehbar. In etwa fünfzehn Minuten führt er zu den Wiesen des „Belvedere“ (470 m), von denen man einen wunderbaren Blick auf Chiavenna und die Einmündung der drei Täler genießt. Über Chiavenna ist gut das Dorf Pianazzola sichtbar, und höher oben das Kreuz von Dalò. Wir setzen den Weg fort, der in den Wald führt, vorbei an einem alten Specksteinbruch, bis zu einem großen Felsen nahe einer Quelle, der von den Einheimischen „sass che gota“, also tropfender Stein, genannt wird. Kurz danach lichtet sich der Wald. Hier sind die Hütten der „contrada Zarucchi“ und gleich danach die der „Pighetti“, deren schöne und alte Bauten den Kern von Uschione bilden. Ich liebe es, über die Ebene zu spazieren, um die sich das Dorf gruppiert.

Es herrscht eine intensive Stille, nur vom Geräusch des Wassers der Quellen unterbrochen.

Der Weg, der Uschione durchquert, führt natürlich zur kleinen Kirche von 1609, die der Himmelfahrt geweiht ist.
