Every mule track is a masterpiece of ingenuity and taste. The long mule track that climbs from Gordona to the Alpe Cermine is among the most beautiful in Valchiavenna. It is the so-called benefactor’s mule track. The view that will open before your eyes during the route, as well as the one you will appreciate once you reach the top, will reward you for the effort of the climb.

You then drive along the consortium road and when you reach Donadivo, you can leave the car in the parking area.

The start of the mule track is easy to find: from here the climb begins on the beautiful stone path that leads into the woods. The route offers no respite and from the 750 meters of Donadivo you climb until you reach Alpe Orlo at an altitude of 1165 meters. The route is fascinating, especially in autumn when the first cold spells start the slow change in the color of the leaves from green to shades of orange and yellow.

The panorama opens to the north towards Val Bregaglia and to the south on Lake Novate Mezzola. The route offers a very favorable perspective, enhanced by the hillside which during these months is often frequented by mushroom and chestnut lovers.

The first stage ends at Alpe Orlo from where you continue to Alpe Cermine (1350 m) always following the mule track once used to connect the alpine pastures with the valley and the inhabited centers.

Just follow the signage placed along the ridge to gradually exit the woods. Then you will cross the mountain following the contour path, until you notice at the summit the characteristic white chapel with a circular plan that signals the arrival at Alpe Cima. Here the altitude is just below 1900 meters.

The panorama more than compensates for the effort and time spent walking.

From the meadows of Alpe Cima the view ranges from the peaks of Val Codera to the granite mass of Pizzone di Prata, ascending further towards Bregaglia where the Sciora group with its five peaks dominates, framed by Cengalo and Badile.

Ogni mulattiera è un capolavoro di ingegno e gusto. La lunga mulattiera che da Gordona sale all'alpe Cermine è fra le più belle in Valchiavenna. Si tratta della cosiddetta mulattiera del benefattore. Si percorre quindi in auto la strada consortile e giunti a Donadivo, è possibile lasciarla nel piazzale.

L’imbocco della mulattiera è facile da trovare: da qui inizia la salita sulla splendida via in pietra che si inoltra nel bosco. Il percorso non dà tregua e dai 750 metri di Donadivo si sale fino a raggiungere l’Alpe Orlo a quota 1165 metri. Il percorso è affascinante, specialmente in autunno quando i primi freddi danno il via al lento mutare del colore delle foglie che da verde degrada sui toni dell’arancione e del giallo.

Il panorama si apre a nord verso la Val Bregaglia e a sud sul Lago di Novate Mezzola. Il percorso vi propone una prospettiva assai favorevole, valorizzata dalla mezza costa che in questi mesi è spesso frequentata anche dagli amanti di funghi e castagne.

La prima tappa si conclude all’Alpe Orlo da dove si prosegue fino all’Alpe Cermine (1350 m) seguendo sempre la mulattiera un tempo utilizzata per collegare gli alpeggi con la valle e i centri abitati.

Basta seguire la segnaletica posta lungo la cresta per uscire gradualmente dal bosco. Si attraverserà poi la montagna seguendo il tracciato in costa, fino a quando noterete sulla sommità la caratteristica chiesetta bianca dalla pianta circolare che segnala l’arrivo all’Alpe Cima. Qui la quota è di poco inferiore ai 1900 metri.

Il panorama ripaga ampiamente della fatica e del tempo trascorso a camminare.

Dai prati dell’Alpe Cima la vista spazia dalle vette della Val Codera fino alla granitica possenza del Pizzone di Prata, salendo ancora verso la Bregaglia dove domina il gruppo dello Sciora con le sue cinque vette, a cui fanno da cornice il Cengalo e il Badile.

Der Einstieg in den Saumpfad ist leicht zu finden: von hier beginnt der Aufstieg auf dem wunderschönen steinernen Weg, der in den Wald führt. Der Weg nimmt keine Rücksicht und von 750 Metern in Donadivo steigt man bis zur Alpe Orlo auf 1165 Meter. Der Weg ist besonders im Herbst faszinierend, wenn die ersten Kälteeinbrüche den langsamen Farbwechsel der Blätter von Grün zu Orangetönen und Gelb auslösen.

Der Ausblick öffnet sich nach Norden zum Val Bregaglia und nach Süden zum Novate Mezzola See. Die Strecke bietet eine sehr günstige Perspektive, verstärkt durch die Seitenlage, die in diesen Monaten oft von Pilz- und Kastanienliebhabern besucht wird.

Die erste Etappe endet an der Alpe Orlo, von wo aus es weitergeht bis zur Alpe Cermine (1350 m), stets auf dem Saumpfad, der früher genutzt wurde, um die Almen mit dem Tal und den Siedlungen zu verbinden.

Folge einfach der Beschilderung entlang des Kamms, um allmählich aus dem Wald herauszukommen. Anschließend geht es entlang der Bergseite weiter, bis du oben die charakteristische weiße kleine Kirche mit rundem Grundriss siehst, die das Erreichen der Alpe Cima signalisiert. Hier liegt die Höhe knapp unter 1900 Metern.

Der Ausblick belohnt reichlich die Mühe und die verbrachte Zeit beim Wandern.

Von den Wiesen der Alpe Cima reicht der Blick von den Gipfeln des Val Codera bis zur granitischen Macht des Pizzone di Prata, weiter bergauf zur Bregaglia, wo die Sciora-Gruppe mit ihren fünf Gipfeln dominiert, eingerahmt vom Cengalo und dem Badile.
