From here, continue along trail S531 in an increasingly open, switchback-filled environment leading to the Stelvio National Park Observatory. A long traverse crosses an old landslide, then ascends to the Alpe Cristallo meadows, where a clear line of lunette trenches dug into the earth and now completely grassy is crossed. Higher up, a steep scree section is tackled using what remains of the mule track. You then reach the foot of the final steep slope. The mule track goes through a tunnel across a ridge and climbs sharply, passing two cave shelters. Da qui, si continua lungo il sent. S531 in un ambiente ormai aperto e a tornanti che porta all'Osservatorio del Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio. Con una lunga traversa si supera una vecchia frana e si sale quindi alle praterie dell'Alpe Cristallo, dove si attraversa un'evidente linea di trincee a lunetta scavate nella terra ed ormai completamente inerbate. Piu' in alto si affronta una ripida fascia di ghiaioni sfruttando quanto resta della mulattiera. Si giunge cosi ai piedi della scarpata terminale. La mulattiera attraversa in galleria un costone e si alza ripidamente toccando due ricoveri in grotta. Nei pressi della cresta ci si trova di fronte a un bivio: a destra il Passo Ables e a sinistra il bivacco Provolino, che si raggiunge dopo aver superato una postazione blindata di artiglieria e un osservatorio in grotta., de=Von der Fraktion Le Fantelle nach Madonna dei Monti folgt man dem Anstiegspfad S547.1, der zur oberen Alpe Solaz führt. Von hier geht es weiter auf dem Weg S531 in einer offenen und serpentinenreichen Umgebung zum Observatorium des Nationalparks Stilfserjoch. Mit einem langen Querverlauf wird ein alter Erdrutsch überwunden und dann steigt man zu den Wiesen der Alpe Cristallo auf, wo man eine deutliche Linie von Lünette-Schützengräben durchquert, die in die Erde gegraben und inzwischen komplett mit Gras bewachsen sind. Weiter oben bewältigt man ein steiles Geröllfeld, dabei wird der verbliebene Teil des Saumpfads genutzt. So gelangt man an den Fuß der letzten Steilwand. Der Saumpfad durchquert in einem Tunnel einen Felsen und steigt steil an, dabei werden zwei Höhlenunterkünfte passiert. In der Nähe des Kamms befindet man sich an einer Weggabelung: rechts der Ables-Pass und links die Provolino-Hütte, die nach Überquerung einer gepanzerten Artilleriestellung und einem Höhlenobservatorium erreicht wird.}}
