Il tratto finale e' un po' piu' ripido e senza un percorso obbligato si arriva al passo., de=Auf der Stilfser Jochstraße, die von Bormio aus ansteigt, beginnt man in der Kehre vor der zweiten Cantoniera rechts abzubiegen und das Vitelli-Tal zu betreten, indem man sich an den Fuß des steilen Südhangs stellt; wenn sich das Tal verengt, geht man nach rechts und steigt den gegenüberliegenden Hang hinauf. Man biegt nach rechts ab und steigt über Bodenwellen und Täler in südlicher Richtung auf, bis man den breiten Hang erreicht, der zum Ables-Pass führt. Der letzte Abschnitt ist etwas steiler, und ohne einen obligatorischen Weg erreicht man den Pass.}}
