The Sentiero Italia represents one of the most ambitious and fascinating projects in the Italian hiking scene.

A route that crosses the entire Peninsula, embracing mountains and valleys, coasts and plains, art cities and small hidden villages. This extraordinary adventure was born thanks to the support of the numerous sections of the Italian Alpine Club, a historic institution that for over a century has been dedicated to promoting mountain culture and protecting the Alpine and Apennine environments.

“Sentiero Italia CAI” is a composite project: it is not only about the route, the longest in the world, its maintenance and promotion, but a broader idea. A participatory project aimed at attracting diverse and varied interests, a hub around which to converge initiatives capable of boosting the economy of the Italian highlands, promoting in a new and lively way traditions, artisanal and natural specialties, and proposing a new, transversal, and shared culture.

With its 8000 km, the Sentiero Italia is not only a physical route but above all an emotional, cultural, and historical journey. It winds through 20 regions, 16 UNESCO sites, and numerous national and regional parks. Every step carries a story, every stage offers unforgettable emotions.

A Sustainable Endeavor

Respect for the environment and local communities is at the heart of the Sentiero Italia project. Each section has been designed and cared for by CAI volunteers to guarantee the sustainability of the itinerary, enhancing biodiversity and promoting slow, conscious, and respectful tourism.

Il Sentiero Italia rappresenta uno dei progetti più ambiziosi e affascinanti nel panorama dell’escursionismo italiano.

Un percorso che attraversa l’intera Penisola, abbracciando montagne e valli, coste e pianure, città d’arte e piccoli borghi nascosti. Questa straordinaria avventura è nata grazie al supporto delle numerose sezioni del Club Alpino Italiano, istituzione storica che da oltre un secolo si dedica alla promozione della cultura montana e alla tutela dell’ambiente alpino e appenninico.

“Sentiero Italia CAI” è un progetto composito: non si tratta solo del percorso, il più lungo del mondo, della sua manutenzione e promozione, ma di un’idea più ampia. Un progetto partecipato che punta ad attrarre interessi diversi e variegati, un nodo attorno al quale far convergere iniziative in grado di muovere l’economia delle terre alte italiane, che possa promuoverne in maniera nuova e vivace le tradizioni, le specialità artigianali e naturalistiche, e proporre una nuova cultura, trasversale e condivisa.
