Starting from Ambria, climb following the direction of trail marker no. 253. Once you enter the Zappello valley it is almost impossible to leave the route because it always follows the North-South valley direction. After the initial slopes, you reach a plateau where, from spring until early summer, you can see Lake Zappello, which forms as a result of snowmelt. In this section, the path is a bit less clear, you go around the lake staying on the left until you reach the huts of Alpe Dossello. The trail, so far quite gentle, gradually climbs on the right, bypasses some gullies, then reaches the Cigola pasture just below 1,900 meters. Here you intersect the GVO-Gran Via delle Orobie; continuing to the right, after a few dozen meters, among the ruined huts of Alpe Cigola, a bivouac dedicated to GianMario Lucini was recently renovated (in 2017). The bivouac is an interesting alternative for resting, both for those doing the GVO and for those coming from Bergamo via Passo Cigola. To drive up to Ambria by car, you need to obtain a permit (5 daily; 15 seasonal) available at the Piateda town hall or at the nearby Bar Centro. But nothing stops you from going up to Ambria on foot, leaving your car at the Vedello power station, in which case you will add an additional 30 minutes to your walk.
