The Valle delle Messi starts from the village of Pezzo and, crossing several groups of characteristic stone huts, extends in the direction of the Monte Gavia - Punta di Pietra Rossa group. The valley in the initial part, from Santa Apollonia to Case Silizzi, is characterized by a wide flat area where until the last century there was the Silizzi lake, later filled by debris transported by the Oglio Frigidolfo stream. The vegetation has been influenced by human intervention which has resulted in a mosaic composition rich in biodiversity. One can recognize mowed meadows alternating with still wet areas where horsetails and sedges prevail. After Case Silizzi the valley rises again and the very steep slopes are characterized by larch forest formations on the left hydrographic side and alder on the right. At higher elevations, after passing Rifugio Val Malza, wide meadows intermixed with patches of rhododendron dominate.
