The recommended itinerary is in memory of the people of Castione from past generations who daily traveled this path, almost always with a loaded packbasket, connecting the upper hamlets of the village with the valley floor lands for agricultural work. It begins near a newly built public parking lot just before the roundabout leading to the shopping center. From here, you take an unpaved road on the left that leads to loc. Ca' Bianca, where the actual ascent begins. The path winds through the vineyards up to loc. Grigioni, where you cross the characteristic village before a short stretch of paved road. Continuing upwards along the vineyards, you reach in order loc. La Ganda, famous for its rock engravings, the Crap de la Penaja, the only equipped section with chains to ease crossing, and loc Ca' Martinelli where the Sentiero Balcone crosses and a beautiful view opens up over the Valtellina valley up to Ardenno. From here, you climb a steep path leading to loc. Piatta, where you follow a short paved road section before taking, on the left, a recently cleared pasture trail. In a short time, you reach the summit of the Triangino plateau and, following the signs, reach the final destination of this excursion, the Masso Altare. You can descend by the same route or follow the instructions given in the Sentiero Balcone itinerary.
