This loop itinerary starts from Kuerc Square, the historic heart of Bormio, and combines nature and Valtellina authenticity in an evocative route that offers ever-changing glimpses of the valley. Ideal in autumn, when the Pedemontana della Reit is embraced by the foliage of larch and Scotch pine trees, the trail offers a relaxing walk with an Alpine flavor.
Leaving the square, you cross the old village and take the road that leads to the Rezia Alpine Botanical Garden (well worth a short visit), where the trail to the Reit Foothills begins. The trail is comfortable and almost level, well exposed to the sun and perfect even on the coolest October days. Walking through resin-scented forests and scenic clearings, there are splendid views of Bormio, Valdidentro, and the peaks of the Cima Piazzi and Ortles-Cevedale groups.
Reaching the locality of Uzza, the trail gently descends to the small rural village of Teregua, where time seems to stand still among old wooden huts and the picturesque little church of Santo Crocifisso. From here you cross the bridge over the Adda River and return to Bormio by following the bike/pedestrian path along the Frodolfo stream, through meadows and pastures at the foot of the mountains.
This is a perfect itinerary for those seeking a simple but rewarding walk, with the possibility of stopping along the way for a scenic break or a picnic amidst the colors of autumn.
