The walk starts near the Ristoro Monte Scale, along the N199 dirt road, and follows a flat, accessible route suitable for everyone. The route skirts the impressive Cancano and San Giacomo di Fraele dams, witnesses to the engineering history of the valley: the Cancano dam, built between 1953 and 1956, receives the spillover waters from the San Giacomo dam and the Viola canal, while the San Giacomo dam, begun in 1940 and completed in 1950 after the war events, is fed by numerous streams including the Spol canal, the Alpe, Gavia, Frodolfo, Zebrù, Braulio, and Forcola streams, and part of the Adda River.
The full route includes a bypass of the San Giacomo dam, crossing the dam itself and returning to the starting point, offering spectacular views of the surrounding lakes and mountains, particularly striking in autumn, when the forests are tinged with yellow, orange and red.
