From the parking lot, first climb along a short road and then on a concrete ramp up to the top of the dam. If you want, you can cross the dam, but the proposed route runs along the right bank of the lake. After a flat stretch and a short tunnel carved into the rock, the route becomes quite steep for a short stretch (with a manual joëlette, it is better to have 4 assistants) until reaching Alpe Val Poschiavina: a wide plateau bordered by the stream. From this position, you can see across the opposite shore of the lake the Bignami refuge and further to the right the Fellaria glacier. Always on a well-marked route, you can continue for another 20-30 minutes to another wide alpine pasture without any buildings.
