Starting from the center of Piateda, climb towards loc. Valbona on an asphalt road then begin the ascent on a dirt road which, for short stretches, turns into a mule track (especially after loc. Pusterla where for a short stretch you must dismount). You easily reach Piateda Alta where you take the asphalt road again which you leave, after loc. Bessega, taking the dirt road to the left towards the Dossi. Upon reaching the decauville, continue to the right until reaching loc. Gaggio. Descend for a few hundred meters on the asphalt road to bypass the artificial basin and retrace the decauville for a short stretch, where just before the entrance to a small artificial tunnel, divert left to take the dirt descent, the most technical and fascinating section of the route. Descend quickly passing old districts of Piateda before reaching Piateda Alta again. From here, you can choose to descend via the ascent itinerary or descend the path that goes from Monno to Vermaglio and then to Busteggia. You can then return to the starting point either by the asphalt road or the Sentiero Valtellina.
