Mortirolo Pass from Tovo is apparently less difficult than the classic mountainside from Mazzo. Actually the average gradient is 10.7, upon the overall length of 12.2 km. The final part is really hard, a strip of concrete, which goes up through mountain huts, with peaks at 23. It is here where you have to face your limits and many cyclists have to put a foot down because just keeping your balance is a demanding exercise. After this part, there is again an amazing section through woods and rocks, in what is called Lot, before reaching the road of the classic Mortirolo climb up to the pass. Nevertheless, also the first part of the ascent from Tovo goes up constantly and it is demanding, sometimes very difficult; but the surrounding alpine environment is breathtaking, so rich in vegetation and rarely busy.
