Mortirolo Pass (from Aprica - Pian di Gembro - Trivigno)

A course of 27.8 km however, full of climbs, interspersed with depressions, with descents and pleasant false-flat sections. Ideal for those who like to enjoy nature. In fact, there are numerous passages through the woods where it is possible to breathe in the scents of resin and wood. It already starts high, from the 1,200 meters of Aprica to the 1,800 of Mortirolo, so the ride is feasible from late spring to late fall. For the cyclist, the first part up to the Piangembro nature reserve, the climb is decidedly easy and shady. After Piangembro there are some challenging ramps of up to 15 percent gradient. Everything is made digestible, however, by the signs reminding of the various localities such as Santa Cristina, and the mind flies to the exploits of Marco Pantani. Once you get to Trivigno alta, past one last ramp, the bulk of the effort is done. You then continue with a wonderful little valley to the pass, passing over the ridge that offers breathtaking views, now of Val Camonica and then of Valtellina. It is important to be careful because the road is narrow, like many of the high mountain routes.
