The excursion starts from the parking lot near the Church of San Giacomo di Fraele in Cancano in Valdidentro and follows trail N199. In a few steps, you reach Passo di Fraele, the watershed between the Adda basin and that of the SpolInnDanubio. The path descends for 1 km, reaching a fork. Continue to the left, cross the Val Bruna on a bridge and then descend to the Grasso di Pra' Grata. This is one of the most spectacular places in the area, both for the solitude of the place and for the morphology of the vast limestone pebble valley floors reminiscent of Apennine landscapes, around the wild and almost forgotten cliffs of the Piz Murtarol ridge and the node of Cassa del Ferro. Along trail N182, you quickly reach Ponte del Gallo. In this area, part of the Stelvio National Park, it is not uncommon to see grazing ungulates.
