The starting point—which has parking—is the charming village of Laveggiolo (1,485 m), in Gerola Alta, with its beautifully restored and well-maintained stone houses.
The route follows the agricultural and forestry trail for a short stretch, but immediately turns left and follows Trail No. 101 (GVO—Gran Via delle Orobie), which, after a few ups and downs, reaches and crosses the Vedrano stream, then climbs—with a few steeper sections—up the opposite slope.
The trail—still Trail No. 101 (GVO – Gran Via delle Orobie)—remains in the woods; then, after a series of zigzagging switchbacks, it crosses the Pizzo Melàsc ridge and intersects the agricultural-forestry-pastoral trail; the trees thin out, and then the pasture comes into view, dotted here and there with structures that evoke the agricultural past and present of this area, such as “barek” (dry-stone enclosures) and “baitelli.”
The view is now more expansive, with Pizzo dei Tre Signori and Pizzo di Trona in sight. The trail continues on almost level ground, crosses a stream, and reaches the Trona Soliva Mountain Hut (1,907 m) in the upper Pietra Valley.
The return trip follows the same route.
