The environment crossed is at high altitude, characterized by alpine meadows, and for a stretch the route coincides with the Climate Change Path, dedicated to the effects of global warming on periglacial environments. In the locality of Rese Basse there are numerous remains of military fortifications and there is a gun emplacement in a gallery; from here you descend following a still well-preserved military road up to near the Terza Cantoniera, again on the Stelvio road. The itinerary can be tackled in both directions, but starting near the hairpin bend at an elevation of 2588 on the Stelvio road, where there are some parking spaces for cars, allows you to travel it almost entirely downhill.
