Built for the first time in 1978 and recently renovated, the Val Loga bivouac is reached from the Montespluga plain via a path that requires a decent technical preparation. In the first section, you walk on flat terrain across gentle pastures crossed by several water streams, then climb decisively in altitude on steep switchbacks where vegetation gives more and more way to rocks. The bivouac is also reachable from Val Schisarolo, an alternative for the return to the valley, thus creating a sort of loop around Monte Cardine.
