The route starts from the hamlet of Macolini (1656 m), north of Madesimo, crosses the stream and continues along the plateau formed by the Scalcoggia. On the right, the path climbs in switchbacks, then ascends a ridge up to Lake Emet at 2192 m elevation. Skirting the lake on the left, it continues to Niemet Pass at 2294 m, where the border stone between Italy and Switzerland is located.
This is a moderate difficulty trail lasting 2 hours with 630 m elevation gain, with a rest point at the Giovanni Bertacchi Refuge overlooking Lake Emet where you can book for lunch and relax after the strenuous climb.
