The Pescegallo parking lot (1,473 m) is the starting point. The trail follows the narrow road that winds upward through the meadow—which serves as a ski slope in winter—and turns left at the fork. The Casera di Pescegallo is at an elevation of 1,595 meters, just below the avalanche barriers. After an uphill stretch, the trail continues on flatter ground to Casera del Lago (1,788 m) and then reaches the dam with the caretakers’ houses (no longer inhabited, ed.).

Lake Pescegallo lies in a basin at an elevation of 1,865 meters, with Cima di Pescegallo (2,370 m) and Monte Ponteranica (2,378 m) to the south—both rocky and rugged—and, from the east to the north, a gentler panorama of numerous alpine pastures and peaks of the Val Gerola.

The return trip follows the same route.
