From the parking lot south of the castles' cliff, path No. 205, through the last vineyards of Valtellina, leads to medieval ruins. From the Visconti Castle (Castello Nuovo) there is a striking view of Rupe Magna, the largest rock with prehistoric carvings in Europe, and the impressive hydroelectric plants of the Grosio power plant. After a visit to the castles and the engraved rocks, we continue down the track toward the village, where we meet first the majestic parish church of S. Giuseppe, then, across the road, the Villa Visconti Venosta and, behind, through winding lanes, the church of S. Giorgio.
To its left, taking via Pruneri, you come close to the river; you then turn right onto the Sentiero Valtellina and pass the beautiful Grosotto hydroelectric power plant, ready to enjoy a relaxing stop at the small lake with sport fishing. Taking Via Molini to enter the village, you pass the square on the left of the town hall and turn right onto Via Patrioti, which is full of reminders of the past, including, at the bottom, the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine di Grosotto, a genuine Baroque masterpiece. Continuing along the street, you will soon return to the starting point.
