The Ortles Haute Route is a high-mountain trail approximately 120 km long with 9,000 meters of elevation gain, one of the most spectacular routes in the Central Alps.
The loop begins and ends in Bormio, following much of the Alta Via dell’Ortles and passing through areas of exceptional natural beauty in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.
The route alternates between long climbs, technical traverses, military trails, scree slopes, high-altitude pastures, and spectacular panoramic viewpoints at the foot of Ortles-Cevedale. After ascending the Val Zebrù, you’ll reach the Pizzini and Casati mountain huts, then cross the Madriccio Pass and descend to Solda. From here, the route climbs toward the Stelvio Pass via the Sentiero degli Asini, Malga dei Vitelli, and the Forcola, before the final long section leading to the Fraele and Oga Towers and back to Bormio.
The route runs almost entirely at an altitude above 2,000 meters and includes several challenging alpine passages, requiring excellent physical fitness, experience on technical terrain, and the ability to navigate independently in a mountain environment.
