An easy and pleasant walk, ideal for families with children and for anyone looking to enjoy an experience that combines nature and culture without having to tackle steep inclines.
The trail begins at the Oga Fort, an important military fortification from World War I that has recently reopened to the public following extensive restoration work. Today, the fort houses a museum exhibition that offers insight into the lives of the soldiers and the strategic role played by the Upper Valtellina during the war.
Leaving the fort, the trail leads in just a few minutes to the Paluaccio di Oga Nature Reserve, one of Lombardy’s most fascinating protected areas. Here, a wooden boardwalk crosses a picturesque high-altitude peat bog, home to numerous plant and animal species typical of alpine wetlands.
Along the way, informational panels provide insights into the area’s history and the reserve’s natural features, turning the walk into an educational as well as relaxing experience.
Thanks to the short length of the route and the absence of any particular technical difficulties, this trail is the perfect choice for a half-day outing in the great outdoors, combining a visit to the Fort’s museum with an exploration of one of the most precious corners of the Stelvio National Park.
