The ski mountaineering trail to Palù Lake is a medium-difficulty route that starts in San Giuseppe in Valmalenco and runs mainly on small roads and forest trails, bypassing the lake and then continuing to more challenging routes.

The route is well-marked, but it is advisable to always check snowpack conditions and the possibility of using the ski slopes for the return trip.

Go up on skis on the small road that leads to the hamlet "I Barchi," which starts from the parking lot of the San Giuseppe chairlift.

When you reach the lake, go around it keeping it to the right on a beaten track, aiming for the extreme eastern bend (fundasc). From here follow the "ski mountaineering track" in memory of Zanella Pierangelo ("Pista Pier", yellow signs) that enters the magnificent pine forest in a unique environment for its beauty among larch and pine trees. This section passes under the slopes of MONTE ROGGIONE and then exits at PASSO CAMPOLUNGO.

Given the prohibition to go up the slope, it is necessary to descend from the pass (about 50mt) in the direction of Alpe di Campolungo.

When you reach the huts you turn S-E crossing first the blue slope and then the red slope (be careful), to pass under the "Scerscen-Cima Motta" chairlift.

Beyond the lift that crosses the plain, you mount the rock jumps in the woods near the black slope (Thöni), then continue under the pylons and reach the summit of Cima Motta.

From here by trail you return to San Giuseppe.
