Along the Stelvio road, which climbs from Bormio, at the hairpin bend before the second Cantoniera you begin to traverse to the right as you enter the Valle dei Vitelli valley by standing at the base of the steep southern slope; when the valley narrows, you bear to the right as you climb the opposite slope. Bending to the right, you ascend over bumps and valleys in a southerly direction until you enter the wide slope leading to Ables Pass. The final section is a little steeper, and without an obligatory path you reach the pass.
