As part of this tour is in Switzerland, you can use the Bernina Express (from Tirano to S. Moritz) to travel through Val Poschiavo. The Col D'anzana marks the border between Italy and Switzerland and is the starting point of two routes: the first one on the right, that passing through Prato Valentino goes to Teglio; the second one - the one described below on the left, straight to the valley bottom. The descent can be split in two distinct parts : a regular and flowing one to Lughina (except a brief section with technical switchbacks: bike carrying recommended) and a second one on a mule track offering a constant and gentle slope to Tirano. THE CLIMB From Tirano - Bus and Train Square - (by car or by bike) From Tirano's bus station, go straight to the border of Piattamala and go on to Campascio, then turn left towards Cavaione on asphalt road. Go on to Pescia Bassa where it's mandatory to leave the car if you are not provided with a permission for Pescia Alta, you can pay a daily toll at Brusio town hall (tel.41(0)818465353 - www.brusio.ch). From Pescia Bassa to Col d'Anzana From Pescia Bassa ride 2,2 Km on the dirt road to Pescia Alta, then follow a well-marked path to Col d'Anzana. Along the road at 2.050 m height, just a little before of Pescia Alta you find the Anzana Hut. THE DESCENT From Col d'Anzana to Tirano 12,3 km 1.805 m From Col d'Anzana go down a few meters (sign Step 1 - 2.174 m height) where, on the left, a long panoramic trail begins, then follow a beautiful mule track to Frantelone (sign Step 2 1.740 m height), where you find a sign showing the easiest alternative: a dirt road to Lughina. Be careful if you decide to go on: the track has a lot of technical hairpins. From Lughina (Sign Step 3 1.430 m height) starts the very long mule track to Villa di Tirano's vineyards. The nearby Sanctuary of the Madonna is the gateway to the city of Tirano.
