The Val Belviso is long, deep, and dominated in the upper part by the silhouette of Monte Torena, which reflects in the large artificial lake at the valley bottom. The route starts from Aprica, descending to Ponte di Ganda. The climb begins here and continues up to just below the Val Belviso dam (picnic area): it is on road, partly paved and partly dirt, with gradients reaching 15% at times, including the switchbacks climbing the side of the barrier. The route continues on flat dirt road with the stunning view of the lake surrounded by fir forests. At the bottom of the basin, one climbs with effort to the left on steep switchbacks to reach the wide terrace of Radici di Campo. Unfortunately, the road leading to Malga Campo rises with a constant gradient over 20%, is very uneven, with large loose stones and potholes, and is difficult to pedal for a biker who is not trained and technically experienced. Beware of the return with the uphill section up to Aprica. Text and photos by Federico Pollini.
