The route starts from Rifugio Campo (2000 m) following the signs to Baita del Pastore, leaving behind green pastures used for grazing and the last characteristic huts of the Val Zebru'. Upon reaching the Baita (water point with picnic area) the path splits. Turning left, the road continues towards Rifugio Quinto Alpini (2877 m), the historic refuge of Cai Milano. Located on a rock spur at the foot of the Zebru' glacier, the refuge is a destination and base for hikers, climbers and a welcoming point of the Sentiero Italia. Turning right and following the signs indicating the Passo Zebru', you gently ascend along the path which, crossing numerous streams, leaves the green meadows for a more barren and rocky landscape. A short stretch of rocky steps is overcome with the help of metal ropes, then continuing on a less steep path, which can be snow-covered even during part of the summer season. Upon reaching Passo Zebru' (3010 m), the panorama extends from Gran Zebru' (3857 m) to the Forni glacier up to the Thirteen peaks. The path continues downhill towards the Val Cedec; first heading to Rifugio Pizzini (2706 m) and then crossing the stream along the path that gently descends to Rifugio Branca (2493 m).
