A rather long stage with an overall high elevation gain takes the Sentiero Italia to the upper Valtellina in the enchanting Val Viola. Shortly after leaving the Rifugio Malghera, the path proceeds with a steep ascent passing the Bivacco Pian del Lago and continues to the Passo di Vermolera at 2732 meters altitude. A steep descent follows down to the Laghi di Tres where the climb begins again passing the Lago Nero up to the Capanna Dosde' at 2824 meters above sea level. The second steep descent of the day quickly leads to the bottom of the homonymous valley where, after crossing a small bridge, you reach the welcoming Rifugio Federico In Dosde'.
