From the slopes overlooking the Valtellina, the journey moves to the isolated Val Grosina with a stage of medium length and reduced elevation gain. From the Rifugio Schiazzera, following the World War I Military Mule Track, you ascend to the very cold Lago Schiazzera, then continuing eastward on the Mule Track with a gentle descent passing through Alpe Salina, until reaching the slopes overlooking the Western Val Grosina. Always following the Mule Track, you reach Alpe Piana, now renovated as a refuge managed in summer. Leaving the refuge and following a comfortable flat forest trail, you reach l'Alpe Guinzana and then the locality Grasso di Pedruna, continuing along a ridgeline path to arrive at Malghera, a characteristic alpine pasture dominated by the Santuario della Madre delle Misericordie with its imposing bell tower and the nearby large Fabbriceria structure now managed as a refuge.
