The German IMPERIAL WAY' began with the ancient climb at Cancano, wellworn by Medieval caravans bringing wine to trade for salt in Central Europe. After the Middle Ages, it was adapted for the immense Cancano dam sites. The climb is in the sun the entire time, along a pine forest that wafts a lovely scent towards the road. Once at the top, the view of the winding road is quite breathtaking.
