Stelvio Epic Rides: Forte of Oga

The climb to the Fortress of Oga is an ascent that is fascinating for its balance of cycling challenge, immersion in nature and a deep connection to history. Starting at the Santa Lucia crossroads on the outskirts of Bormio, we are immediately immersed in a route that offers breathtaking views and true mountain sensations, leading to a symbol of the Great War.

The Route:

Leaving the main Valdisotto road at the Santa Lucia junction, the climb begins sharply. The well-paved road immediately climbs through the woods, with a gradient that remains steady and rewarding, ideal for finding one's own pace. The route winds through a series of well-distributed hairpin bends, allowing you to gain altitude with regularity and easing your fatigue, while at the same time offering increasingly sweeping views of the valley below.

The climb culminates at the foot of the Oga Forte, an imposing military fortress dating back to World War I. The finish is spectacular: the fortress stands majestically as a historic sentinel, offering not only a point of cultural interest but also a natural terrace with breathtaking 360-degree views. Here, the fatigue of the climb dissolves in admiration for the landscape and in the knowledge that you have conquered a summit steeped in history.
