Stelvio Epic Rides: The Conquest of Cancano – From Fiordalpe/Turripiano

Among the epic climbs of Alta Valtellina, the route leading to the Cancano Lakes from Fiordalpe/Turripiano stands out for its beauty and its particular sequence of hairpin turns, a real hidden gem for bike lovers. It is not an extreme altitude challenge, but an immersive pedal that rewards with unforgettable views and the feeling of having discovered an authentic corner of the Alps.

The Route:

The climb starts gently from Fiordalpe/Turripiano, shortly after leaving the main road of Valdidentro. Here, the landscape begins to become more intimate, preparing you for what awaits. The road, excellently paved (or with a well-packed gravel-like surface for Gravel, depending on the exact starting point), immediately climbs with determination but never excessively steep.

The Historic Hairpins:

The heart of this ascent is the 21 hairpins that follow each other rapidly, an almost perfect serpentine cutting across the mountainside. This series of curves offers a steady rhythm, allowing you to find your ideal cadence while the panorama progressively opens beneath you. Each hairpin offers a different perspective of the valley below and the surrounding peaks. The engineering of this road, born for hydroelectric purposes, is fascinating and makes the climb an almost meditative experience, where the regularity of the slope and the sequence of curves create a unique flow.
