Family Fun in the Snow

Happiness. In Bormio, there are so many different ways to have fun in the snow with your family. From mini roller coasters to snowshoe walks, not forgetting sliding around in the snow on inflatables and sledges. Come and try them all for yourself, you won’t regret it!

Everyone enjoys playing in the snow. While skiing is the main winter activity for adults, it is by no means the only one for our younger guests. There are snowshoe walks, colourful inflatables, igloos, snowball fights and sledging races. Throughout your winter holiday, your children can let off plenty of steam, while making friends and having fun in the snow. And that means a more relaxing time for you.

Playgrounds and Fun Slopes

In the ski areas at Bormio, Santa Caterina Valfurva and the Valdidentro, there are kindergartens, playgrounds, slopes for very young children and beginners’ areas. TheTrudy Park in Bormio is near the bottom of the Bormio-Bormio 2000 lift.

It is the perfect place to go sledging or to try out skiing for the very first time. Santa Caterina Valfurva is a great place for children to gain more confidence on snow in an outstanding ski resort. Here in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, children can learn to ski in the beginners’ area at the foot of the Cevedale piste. From this year, they can also have fun at the Mirtilla Land baby park with archways, brightly coloured signs, inflatable animals, snow tubing and snowbikes. The ski instructors make learning to ski a game.

The conveyor belt style lift takes kids uphill and trying their first turns as they ski back down the gentle slope. The Fun4Kids Snow Park in the Valdidentro is near the bottom of the ski lifts. In the park, you can slide around on colourful inflatables, sledges and toboggans.

The area is open to both young children, who can play on the carousel with the inflatables, and older children, who will enjoy the steeper slopes of the Snow Park. The facilities include inflatable toys, also located at the bottom of the ski pistes, where children can play in the snow. All you need is a pair of skates and the right attitude!

The Bormio Palazzo del Ghiaccio has a very large indoor ice rink. It is used for international short track speed skating competitions but, at other times when not being used by top athletes for their races, it is the perfect place to learn how to skate. Or to try some jumps, if you are an experienced skater! On the side of the rink is the Coffee Break café where you can relax and refuel before getting back on the ice.

The ice rinks in Santa Caterina Valfurva and Isolaccia, Valdidentro, are outdoors in the town centre. The perfect place to spend some precious time with your children, perhaps after a day skiing or playing in the snow. The ice rinks are open from December to March. They are also open in the evenings. Take a look the opening times.

The Family Bob, Lombardy’s first and only toboggan run on rails

The Family Bob is a fun toboggan run on rails that winds its way through the pine forest in the Cima Piazzi-San Colombano ski area.

The toboggan run is 600 m long, with wide panoramic curves. The 300 m ascent is fully automated, so getting to the top is no effort at all. Its location opposite Rifugio Conca Bianca, at the top of the ski lift, means that children who are at least 120 cm tall can use the toboggan run on their own. And as their parent, you can either give the toboggan run a go yourself or relax in the solarium area of the Rifugio.

The Family Bob is open in both summer and winter, whenever the ski lifts are running. Children aged 4 to 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged 8 and over can use the ride unaccompanied.

Walking on fresh snow with snowshoes

One of the simplest pleasures to enjoy outdoors in the fresh mountain air with your children is, without doubt, a snowshoe walk on fresh snow. Going for a snowshoe walk in the forest just after fresh snow has fallen seeing the deer or fox tracks in the snow is something you will never forget, special moments for your whole family, in close harmony with nature.

In Santa Caterina Valfurva and the Valdidentro, guided walks are organised every week in the daytime and after dark for families with children, led by the Alpine Guides.
