Snowsound is an audiovisual project and musical research that intertwines Olympic archive materials for enhancing the historical memory of winter sports with contemporary artistic languages. An engaging experience, with attention to accessibility and cultural inclusion.
Live Soundscapes
The musicians Forest Drive West and Vincenzo Fabiano (EEZEE Studio) will provide real-time soundscapes for a series of montages of vintage clips on Olympic winter sports, sourced from the Istituto Luce and FICTS archives.
The archive images (1950s-1970s), reworked and edited as living material, dialogue with the artists' music in an overlap of times that generates an immersive experience and new levels of interpretation.
The SNOWSOUND Project
SNOWSOUND is an audiovisual project and musical research born from the collaboration between MMT Creative Lab and Filmmaker Festival as part of the Cultural Olympiad: a cultural experience that intertwines Olympic archive materials, live soundscapes, and site-specific multimedia installations to enhance the historical memory of winter sports – in view of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games – through contemporary artistic languages, generating an experience capable of engaging heterogeneous audiences and diverse territories of Lombardy, with attention to accessibility and cultural inclusion.
Images from the past become the ground on which a deeply present sound settles: the archive is not only remembered but re-read and re-signified. In this dialogue between the materiality of film and electronic writing, memory comes back to life and speaks to contemporary sensitivity.
The Artists
Forest Drive West is the pseudonym of producer Joe Baker, originally from East London. His music has created a stir in the British underground scene and beyond, with essential, atmospheric, and hypnotic techno tracks that contrast with heavier sounds influenced by jungle, exploring intricate rhythms and creative percussion. Since 2016, Forest Drive West has built a rapidly growing catalog of releases, receiving critical acclaim for records on labels such as Livity Sound, Ilian Tape, Mantis, Echocord, and Rupture London. He manages the emerging label OODA, a project conceived to explore polyrhythmic techno, bass, and ambient experiments in all their forms.
Vincenzo Fabiano has over a decade of experience in video as a visual and motion designer, creating multimedia content for concerts, performances, museum installations, and architectural projections. From 2011 to 2021, he collaborated with the Kernel Festival, and in 2022, along with Matteo Galimberto and Massimo Tantaro, he founded EEZEE, a creative studio in Milan. He is a Visual Art Lecturer at the European Institute of Design in Milan.
