The Sound Sculptures
The sound mountains, standing between three and four meters tall, are monumental anthropomorphic sculptures. Made with local resin-treated fabrics, they house within them diffusion systems and speakers that reproduce voices, songs, and natural and urban sounds collected from the area, creating a choral acoustic landscape. The works thus become places of listening, contemplation, and connection between past and present, between tradition and contemporary language.
Three sound sculptures will be inaugurated in Valtellina on January 23 and 24 and will remain set up until March 15, 2026, creating a widespread exhibition path that will involve the following locations:
- Bormio in the Garden of Time at the Civic Museum
- Sondrio at the terrace of Palazzo Lambertenghi, in Piazza Garibaldi
- Tirano in the Courtyard of Palazzo Foppoli
The three sound sculptures will be accompanied by some photographs taken by the artist during the sound collection in Valtellina. In April 2026, the sculptures will be gathered in Milan in a single exhibition.
The Mountain Echoes Project
Mountain Echoes arises from the desire of the CULTURE + BUSINESS Committee and the artist Yuval Avital to celebrate the Lombard cultural and natural heritage. The project, winner of the Culture Olympics Call promoted by the Lombardy Region, is based on an artistic and participatory approach: a work that intertwines art, community, and sustainability, transforming the mountain into a living and collective sound symbol. The initiative is an integral part of the Culture Games of Milan Cortina 2026, the official program accompanying the Winter Olympics and Paralympics with cultural projects capable of enhancing the territories and communities.
