"Marcovaldo ovvero Le stagioni in città" (Marcovaldo or The Seasons in the City) by Italo Calvino (1963) is a collection of 20 short stories that narrates the misadventures of Marcovaldo, an innocent and sensitive worker who lives with his large family in a gray industrial city, desperately seeking nature among asphalt and concrete. Every attempt at natural escape turns into a comedic failure.
