The Department of Culture organizes, every Wednesday in July and August, "Leggi Bormio, una montagna di parole", a series of meetings with different authors.

‘I sogni del Soldato. Vita e logistica della guerra bianca fra Tirano e l'Alta Valtellina’ is a publication born out of a desire to answer the questions often asked by people visiting the sites of the Great War in the Upper Valtellina: what did the soldiers eat up there? How did they keep warm? Where did they sleep? What did their daily survival depend on? The answers to these questions are closely linked to the communications and transport infrastructure of the time, which made life at high altitude possible — albeit with enormous difficulties.

The information gathered is the result of study and research into military diaries, private accounts and archival documents. By analysing and comparing these sources, an attempt has been made to paint a realistic picture of the lives of the Italian soldiers, their adversaries and the Russian prisoners of war stationed in these mountains. The soldiers’ dreams were simple but often unattainable... Life at high altitude, life behind the lines, transport and communications are the main themes covered...
