The Department of Culture organizes, every Wednesday in July and August, "Leggi Bormio, una montagna di parole", a series of meetings with different authors.

Reading and discussion of the book "I re di denari - The Kings of Coins", by Mario Giordano, published by Rizzoli.

Description

"I re di denari" is a candid and unsparing behind-the-scenes account of the great battle over money that rages behind the backs and over the heads of ordinary citizens.

In Italy, a fierce battle is raging amongst the powerful figures of the financial system, one that directly affects our lives. Yet these events, so crucial, are confined to the financial pages of newspapers, which speak of ‘Grande Risiko’ and the ‘OPA Game’, but almost always in language incomprehensible to most. The time has come, however, to expose the economic events that are changing the face of the country. Mario Giordano does just that, as if it were a great popular novel, a saga in which the New Lords of Money, the Knights of Hard Cash—who are the true powers that be, as well as Italy’s real tycoons—clash. In fact, very little is known about these new kings of money on whom our lives depend: who is the prince of the gnomes who has inherited Cuccia’s legacy? Why did he lose Mediobanca? And how much did he gain by losing? Who is the man from the mountains who is marching from Siena to storm the fortress of Milan? Who are the golden sheikhs of Unicredit and San Paolo? And on whose side do the cement king Caltagirone and the French lion of Generali stand? What are their troops? Their weapons? And their aims? In these pages you will find the answers to all these questions. And you won’t always like them.
