NB Due to bad weather, the excursion on Friday 28 August is cancelled and postponed to Saturday 29 August at 3:00 p.m.
In Valle di Fraele, one of the most important paleontological discoveries in the Alpine region was made: thousands of dinosaur footprints dating back 210 million years.
These are mostly footprints of prosauropods - herbivores up to 10 meters long - which, imprinted on the steep dolomite slabs of the Cime di Plator and Cime di Doscopa, offer a fascinating glimpse into the lost world of the Upper Triassic.
The footprints are difficult to access, but thanks to the accompaniment of a guide, it will be possible, on an easy hike, to observe them from viewpoints along the road that runs alongside the Cancano lakes, in complete safety. It will be possible to discover how this exceptional discovery was made, what the footprints of a world now gone reveal, and how research will develop in the coming years.
