Special event: excursion with the discoverer of the prosauropod footprints, Elio Della Ferrera, and with Italy’s leading dinosaur expert, Cristiano Dal Sasso. Afterwards, for children and teenagers, the “ScopriFossili” workshop at the picnic area in the A2A parking lot (duration: approx. 60 minutes).
In Valle di Fraele, one of the most important paleontological discoveries in the Alpine region was made: thousands of dinosaur footprints dating back 210 million years.
These are, for the most part, prosauropod footprints - herbivores up to 10 meters long - which, impressed on the steep dolomite slabs of the Cime di Plator and the Cime di Doscopa, open a fascinating window onto the lost world of the Late Triassic.
The footprints are difficult to reach, but thanks to the accompaniment of a guide, it will be possible, on an easy excursion, to observe them from viewpoints along the road that runs alongside the Cancano lakes, in complete safety. It will be possible to discover how this extraordinary discovery was made, what the footprints tell us about a world now gone, and how research will develop in the coming years.
