The global trail running scene is enriched by an event set to become iconic: the Ortles Haute Route Trail.
On 11 and 12 September, Stelvio National Park will host the first edition of a race that promises to be "more than a competition, an unforgettable journey". The entire event will follow strict sustainability criteria, adhering to the "plastic free" policy to protect the ecosystem of Stelvio National Park. The Ortles Haute Route Trail is an inclusive event and offers distances suitable for different levels of preparation.
The races will take place with start and finish in Bormio, on Friday 11 September, with the start of the Ortles Haute Route Trail, and on Saturday 12 September, with the start of the Raethia Trail, the OH Short Trail and the Joëlette Experience. Ortles Haute Route Trail (120 km / 8.100 m D+)
The epic challenge from Bormio to Bormio with a 38-hour time limit. A logical route, inaugurated in 2018, that circles an iconic mountain, the Ortles (3.905 m). Entirely within Stelvio National Park, the route stretches across its 120 km with 9.000 m of elevation gain, crossing every kind of alpine terrain: from paths through larch and fir woods to rocky trails and easy glaciers. A demanding and adventurous race with three passages above 3.000 m between Lombardy and South Tyrol, a symbolic pass such as the Stelvio Pass, and finally a coveted finish in Bormio, the Magnificent Land.
Raethia Trail (35 km / 2.300 m D+)
A medium-difficulty race, technical yet accessible, always based in Bormio. A loop that blends history and nature: from Bagni Vecchi to the Fraele Towers, along the old military road, skirting the Cancano lakes. A "fast" but alpine trail, with a significant elevation gain.
OH Short Trail (12 km / 600 m D+)
Designed for those who want to approach trail running on a runnable and inclusive course. An easy route, suitable for both beginners and pros, to visit places of extraordinary beauty and importance in the Magnificent Land such as the Pedemontana della Reit, Parco i Bagni Nuovi and the Motte di Oga.
Joëlette Experience (9 km)
A solidarity walk with joëlettes, non-competitive, for teams made up of one transported person and companions who guide the joëlette along the route. Route: from Planec to Piazza del Kuerc (6,5 km), plus 2,5 km from the Pentagono to the starting point.
