The international trail running scene welcomes a new event set to become an icon: the Ortles Haute Route Trail.
On 11 and 12 September, the Stelvio National Park will host the first edition of a race that promises to be “more than a competition, an unforgettable journey”. The entire event will follow strict sustainability criteria, embracing a “plastic-free” policy to protect the ecosystem of Stelvio National Park.

The Ortles Haute Route Trail is an inclusive event offering distances suitable for different levels of fitness and experience. All races will start and finish in Bormio: Friday 11 September will see the start of the Ortles Haute Route Trail, while Saturday 12 September will feature the Raethia Trail and the OH Short Trail.

Ortles Haute Route Trail (120 km / 8,100 m D+)

An epic challenge from Bormio back to Bormio, with a time limit of 38 hours. First established in 2018, the route loops around one of the Alps’ most iconic mountains, Ortles (3,905 m). Entirely within Stelvio National Park, the 120 km course, with 9,000 metres of elevation gain, crosses a wide variety of Alpine environments: from trails through larch and fir forests to rocky terrain and easy glacier sections. A demanding and adventurous journey featuring three passages above 3,000 metres between Lombardy and South Tyrol, an iconic mountain pass such as the Stelvio Pass, and finally the long-awaited finish in Bormio, the Magnifica Terra.

Raethia Trail (35 km / 2,300 m D+)

A medium-difficulty race, technical yet accessible, also starting and finishing in Bormio. A loop through history and nature: from the Bagni Vecchi to the Fraele Towers, along the old military road and beside the Cancano Lakes. A “fast” trail, yet unmistakably Alpine, with elevation gain that makes itself felt.

OH Short Trail (12 km / 600 m D+)

Designed for those who want to discover trail running on a runnable and inclusive course. An easy route suitable for everyone, from beginners to experienced athletes, passing through places of extraordinary beauty and significance in the Magnifica Terra, including the Reit foothill trail, the Bagni Nuovi park and the Motte di Oga.
