Discovering the Churches of Bormio - Guided tour of the Church of S. Spirito organized by the "Volunteers for Culture".
Church of S. Spirito
Today deconsecrated, it was recently purchased and restored by the Municipality of Bormio
Since the beginning of the 19th century, the structure has been abandoned as a place of worship, first becoming a barn, then a tool shed, a dormitory, and finally a private residence. The structure is worth visiting thanks to the beautiful frescoes preserved inside and highlighted by the recent restoration work.
As for the origin of the paintings, the wall and apse frescoes date back to the 15th century, while the ceiling, which is stylistically and thematically unified, seems to be attributed to the first half of the 16th century. Among the most important frescoes to note are The Coronation of the Virgin (probably the work of the workshop of Giovannino da Sondalo) and the scene of the Virgin Orsola with her husband, attributed to Bertolino de Buris.
