The Palio delle Contrade originates from the (healthy) rivalry between the Reparti of Bormio, the districts of the town identified by a particular color and symbol.
During the Palio delle Contrade, each Reparto tries to recruit as many people as possible, requiring a strong spirit of participation. Each participant, to earn more points, is encouraged to wear period costumes, clothing in the colors of their faction, and to use ancient wooden skis.
The program includes skiing competitions, divided by category, that of the Bocia (children) and that of the Granc (adults), as well as a relay race for each Reparto.
